Life in quarintine without ANY sports

At first thought, any person in school would be excited at the thought of not having to go to classes! Wayne State University extended their spring break for a week (because of the coronavirus) so they could properly move over to online education so I had an additional week of break. Being a huge sports fan and knowing I would be quarantined in the house due to the coronavirus, I was thrilled because some major games were coming up. However, a few days into break, everything went completely south.

With the positive for coronavirus test of Rudy Gobert, the ENTIRE NBA decided to suspend all games. At first I was like ok, I guess it's finally time to learn about hockey and baseball. But a day after, they also announced they were cancelling ALL of their games. I got a little worried because sports is a huge part of my life but gladly soccer in Europe was still going to continue right? WRONG, one of the players on my favorite team, Chelsea, tested positive and they cancelled ALL of their games too. Every time I turn on the TV, I get depressed because all I get to watch now is shark tank... which is kind of entertaining but, after an hour or two, gets extremely boring.

I completely understand why they shut down all the games though. A lot of people on the news were arguing about how all of these players got tests because they're rich when normal patients weren't getting tests. I understand the point of view of patients because obviously they would want to get testing done and seeing rich people get special privilege would obviously be annoying. However, I believe that these players did not get testing done purely because they're rich. The shear number of people that sports players come in contact with, especially during games, in arenas, at home, and etc. amounts to many more than a typical patient. It is important to get these players tested so that those people who came in contact can properly quarantine themselves. I obviously agree that if some rich person wanted to get tested, they could buy their way to getting their tests completed but I also feel like you need to acknowledge why it was essential to get these sports players tested.

Having said all of this, I hope this scenario NEVER happens again. Clearly 2020 has not been the greatest year for sports especially with the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant. Not only is the coronavirus really scary and making people sick by the thousands but living life without watching any sports completely sucks especially in such a depressing time. I pray that everyone becomes healthy soon!
